Menu For Hope III

Menu For Hope III

You know food means a lot of things. It means comfort. It means indulgence. Beauty. Memories. Delight. Adventure. Home. Friends. Rituals.

If you are here, you wonder what it means to others, as well. Maybe you also wonder how and what the locals really eat at home in a town you’re visiting? You have heard of Oktoberfest in Munich, maybe even been there, but did you get to meet any locals and eat at their homes? No? Well, now you have the chance!

It is Menu For Hope III time, an online auction during December 11-22 to raise funds for the United Nations World Food Programme, which provides hunger relief to needy people worldwide. Last year food bloggers raised over $17,000 during this auction, and this year it’s bigger and even better!

Dinner in Munich

Food vagabond invites you and your partner to have dinner with me, my hubby T., and some local friends at our home in Munich. We’ll share a multi-course dinner with matching wines and you’ll get to meet some serious blogging and non-blogging foodies from Munich in our natural habitat. We might even consider wearing Dirndls and Lederhosen if you’re very nice! (Prize EU16)

Dinner is subject to availability. We will mutually work out a date during 2007 and I will accommodate any possible allergies or the like you might suffer. But you should certainly be a wine lover as it is always a very important part of my dinner parties!

To win this priceless prize, you just need to bid for it by making a donation. In case you were wondering: Every cent you donate goes directly to the UN World Food Programme. Neither food vagabond, nor any of the organizers of the Menu For Hope (who are all food bloggers themselves), get any money, we don’t even handle the money.

So how can you bid?

Here’s what you should do…

1. Go to the donation page on firstgiving.
2. Make a donation! Each $10 will give you one raffle ticket toward a prize of your choice. Please specify which prize or prizes you’d like in the ‘Personal Message’ section in the donation form when confirming your donation. Do tell us how many tickets per prize, and please use the prize code-for example, a donation of $50 can be 2 tickets for EU16 and 3 for UE10 etc.
If you are donating from the USA and if your company matches your charity donation, please remember to check the
box and fill in the information so we could claim the corporate match.
3. Please also check the box to allow us to see your email address so that we could contact you in case you win. Your email address will not be shared with anyone.
4. Check back on Chez Pim on January 15 when we announce the result of the raffle. The drawing will be done electronically. Our friend the code wizard Derrick at Obsession with Food is responsible for the application that will do the job.

If you don’t care for a dinner in Munich (because you can’t travel to Munich next year or because you get to enjoy said dinner anytime because you call me a friend), there are such great other prizes you could bid for; dinners at famous restaurants, foodie tours of some great cities, cook books, food packages, wine tastings… Check for over 30 prizes in Europe on David’s site or the over 100 worldwide offerings on the main page by Chez Pim. Choose a prize and make a donation. Please.

Because food sometimes means survival.

  1. hi hande, i am definitely buying a raffle ticket for this!!! as long as we can work out a date and i am allowed to bring a baby, i am very much hoping to win this!!!

  2. Johanna,
of course you can bring a baby! And I am sure we can work out a date. I am so sorry I don’t live in/around London and therefore can’t bid for your catering gift, but would be delighted if you can make it to Munich.

Bin gespannt….

  5. What a great gift…how fun that would be to come to Munich for a Bavarian feast with you…and yes, I would expect to see you in Lederhosen!

  6. that’s really generous offer you’ve got there… i’m literally spoilt for choice for the raffles and can’t make up my mind right now on what to bid!

  7. David,
ok, for you my hubby will wear Lederhosen, just don’t tell him I promised this to you.
    Lil,
I know, isn’t it terrible having a limited budget and being forced into choosing? But it is getting late, we have to make up our minds soon!

  8. I hope you don’t mind short notice! I will be in Munich on business from January 15-20, and I have never been there before. Winning this would be a great way to get wonderful memories of the city! If that is too short notice, I will just have to give this prize to my daughter if I win.

  9. Melissa’s Mom,
thank you for your trust in me for being the cause of wonderful memories, I will try to do my best, whoever wins. Unfortunately, in that week I won’t be in Munich at all (otherwise short notice would be no problem), so if you do win, we’ll see Melissa instead sometime! Where are you and your daughter from?

  10. Melissa lives in Edinburgh and writes The Travelers Lunchbox blog, http://www.travelerslunchbox.com. She is married to a German man so it isn’t too hard for her to get to Germany. I live in Seattle and do a lot of business travelling, but it’s rare for me to go to Germany.

  11. Melissa’s Mom,
OMG, you are that Melissa’s Mom! Now the penny has dropped! It really is a pity I won’t be in Munich in that week but if you do win and transfer it to Melissa, I would be very very happy to host her and her husband in Munich.

  12. I was sorry to see I did not “win” your prize (but am delighted to make the contribution, anyway). I’ll be traveling to Munich late September – do you have a recommendation on how to find some lovely places to dine?

I’ll be coming from the west coast of California.

    Thanks!
